My Neighborhood Park Essay The area I live in is filled with parks and green spaces. It's home to a beautiful lake and a beautiful forest, as well as an intricate network of bike paths, sidewalks, and trails. Each park brings different perks: The park called "the forest" provides shade from the sun over two tree-covered hills; the park called "the lake" provides views of the mountains behind us; and the park near my house has bats living in its trees. There is one drawback: It seems that every time we start getting used to a new location or coming up with something new to do there, they decide to close it down so they can build something new for us. I'm not looking forward to the new developments that are planned for this summer. I'm sure they'll be great at first, but after a few weeks of playing around in them, I'll get bored and start wishing for something else. I love outdoor activities, especially hiking. My favorite place to hike is "the lake" . It has a wide selection of trails with varying difficulty levels, including one that's flat and short enough for novice hikers. The most popular trail is the High Pines loop, which loops around the back side of both hills in the forest--it's relatively flat until it terminates at the top of a hill named "the Rock. ” One time, when I was hiking the High Pines loop, I came to a trail that split off into three different trails that all came together at the top of the Rock. It was the trail that led to the summit of "the Rock." There wasn't any signage marking it off as "the summit” so I didn't know it was called "the summit until I saw it written in red on a piece of paper taped to a tree. The trail passed through dense forests and rocky fields before finally coming out onto an open field at the top of "the Rock" . The summit was very windy since it had an open view for miles in every direction. The air was so clear that I could see for miles in every direction. I hiked up the trail with my family, who were smart enough to bring bug spray. When we reached the summit, my dad said that he wanted to go back down, but I wanted to go farther up the mountain. One by one, everyone started heading down except for me. The view was so incredible that it outweighs all of the hardships associated with hiking. I wish there were more trails like these so that people can enjoy them more than once or twice before they're closed down due to construction crews getting their jobs done faster than expected. Many people complain about the infrastructure in these parks. The rotting rotting wooden picnic tables and grills, the sketchy restroom facilities, and the muddy paths may all seem like valid complaints, but I think that it's more of a criticism of what we put where then a complaint against the park itself. I don't blame them for trying to improve things, but if they closed down comfortable places like these and replaced them with new ones, they'd make me mad at them even more. We can't put up with poorly maintained park equipment forever or we'll end up with nothing left at all. cfa1e77820
